GirlsHaven:
       access to success

The Girls’ Education Project subscribes to a philosophy of empowerment. We believe that
each and every girl has the absolute right to free and unhindered access to the
information, training, resources, and support which will permit her full use and control of
her talents and abilities, and support her to success in all areas of her life. We are also
deeply committed to making certain that girls acquire skills with which she can contribute
meaningfully to the development of her family and community.

To this end, we created GirlsHaven, a 24-month university model
curriculum of social education, personal development training, and
community mentoring for girls and young women. GirlsHaven is offered
in partnership with other organizations or institutions, such as Boys and
Girls Clubs, congregate-care residential facilities for girls, through
facilities such as community centers, and youth clubs, and in formal
    after-school programs.

GirlsHaven Magisters, Mentors, Coaches, and Role Models
(R.M.s) provide the highest levels of support, encouragement, and
access to resources so that GirlsHaveners can:

  • participate in sports and the arts,
  • explore their capacity for leadership and service,
  • find increased self-esteem and self-confidence,
  • learn about health and politics,
  • discuss issues of interest and importance to them,
  • build physical stamina and emotional resilience,
  • contribute to their communities, and
  • gain increased financial competency, among other things.

Girls participate in some of these activities during those days of the week when they are
not participating in GirlsHaven meetings, then they share their impressions, thoughts, and
new knowledge during the weekly meetings, to support other Haveners in their personal
    quests.

GirlsHaven Magisters, Mentors, Coaches, and R.M.s are a cadre of talented,
accomplished, and committed individuals who provide constant, expert, and dedicated
support for Haveners throughout their participation. (see our Definitions Page for more)
They share their information and expertise with Haveners, and open up their professional
and other networks to provide girls the access to resources that can make the difference
between success and potential that goes unrealized.

Ask at your local Boys and Girls Club, Community Center, or school. Or send us email.
We would love to bring GirlsHaven to your neighborhood.
