Girls are the fastest-growing segment of
the juvenile justice population

Up to 95% of girls in juvenile corrections
are victims of physical, sexual, and/or
psychological and emotional abuse

An average of 89 reports a day are made
to Child Protective Services in Arizona,
of parents suspected of abusing and
neglecting their children

Abusive relationships are the leading
cause of injury to women and girls
between the ages of 15 and 44

Arizona has had the country’s highest
high school dropout rate – every day up
to 87 teens dropped out of school in
Arizona (Mesa has, very recently, been
found to have the nation’s highest high
school graduation rate)

Arizona has the 2nd highest teen
pregnancy rate in the 50 states, or 4th
depending upon the source – every
week up to 65 babies are born to
teenage mothers in Arizona

More than 300 000 children in Arizona
live in poverty

One Arizonan teen in eight suffers from
depression – say they have felt sad or
hopeless almost every day for at least 2
weeks

Among 9th graders, girls now consume
alcohol at rates equal to boys, and
overall, more and more girls are using,
abusing, and becoming addicted to drugs

More teens kill themselves in Arizona
than in just about any other state - 3
children commit suicide in Arizona each
month.
